Berlin, September 11, 2018. Even before the laying of the foundation stone for the centerpiece of the “Quartier Heidestrasse”, the residential and commercial building QH Core, REWE Markt GmbH signs a lease for around 2,400 sqm of retail space.

  • REWE becomes full-range retailer for entire quarter
  • Customer mix of residents, office users and guests
  • Store opening expected in mid-2020 Berlin

The striking red brick building QH Core, designed by the architectural firm ROBERTNEUN, is being built at a central location within the quarter and the northern Europacity near Berlin’s main train station, where many path connections cross. As a local shopping center, residential and office location, the QH Core will be a highly frequented and lively place for all residents, visitors and users of the neighborhood. QH Core alone will have about 166 apartments for rent.

Thomas Bergander, Managing Director of Taurecon Real Estate Consulting GmbH: “We are very pleased about the conclusion of the contract with REWE Group. It has secured an exclusive location in a prominent location with high visibility from afar. Thanks to its exceptional quality, the local retailer is a strong brand and is thus an excellent fit for Quartier Heidestrasse.”

Dr. Joachim Heß, Expansion Manager for REWE Markt GmbH, Eastern Branch, said on the occasion of the signing of the lease that the location impresses with its strategically good location and concept. REWE expects to benefit in the future from the very good infrastructure and the diverse, well-balanced mix of uses of both the building and the surrounding area. With the wide-ranging assortment, it will certainly be possible to meet the various customer requirements.”

Quartier Heidestrasse, located in the northwestern part of Berlin-Mitte in Europacity, is being developed as a vibrant new neighborhood of residential, office, commercial, public streets and squares, and green spaces. Cafés, restaurants and the mixed-use QH Core in the center of the neighborhood create a pleasant, trendy living and working environment.

A total of around 268,000 m² GFA is planned for the Heidestrasse quarter, including commercial and retail space and around 920 apartments. 25 percent of the apartments will be built as subsidized housing in line with the Berlin model of cooperative building land development. QH Core is expected to be ready for occupancy in mid-2020 as the first subproject of the neighborhood.

Quartier Heidestraße GmbH was advised by JLL during the negotiations.
